Almeria Area Guide

Almerimar lies 40 km west of Almeria City, in one of the least rainy parts of Europe where the sun shines almost 300 days a year and the average temperature is 27º in summer and 15º in winter.

Almerimar is a purpose built resort, especially designed to offer the best of facilities for holiday makers and residents alike. It boasts 13km of wide, sandy beaches and offers great sporting facilities, bars, hotels, shopping arcades and nightlife. Unlike some of the larger Spanish resorts, Almerimar has managed to maintain a very Spanish feel and, with its many tapas bars, it is still a popular holiday destination with Spaniards from all over Spain.

Whilst being a wonderful place for a holiday, the exceptional facilities and abundance of modern, well designed apartments, town houses and villas to rent also make it a town that is easy to live in as an expat amongst the expats, or to work amongst the Spanish.

Almerimar Port

Where there’s a port there’s always life and bustle and a focus for the town is the 1000 berth Marina which is lively with bars and restaurants, even over the winter months. Here you will find a wide variety of restaurants to suit your mood from excellent Spanish tapas cuisine through Chinese, Italian to gourmet meals (and of course great local seafood) served in wonderful surroundings overlooking the water.

Sporting Facilities

Almerimar is well known for its sporting activities. There is a thriving sailing club, and a diving club in the marina. Water sports of all kind including yachting, windsurfing, diving, and fishing, are all easily available and tuition is easy to arrange.

Then there’s the golf course. The Almerimar Golf course is an 18 hole, extending to 27 hole course, designed by Gary Player. The course has wide tree-lined fairways, and large greens, which are well maintained and fast to play on. There are water features at five of the holes. The 12th hole is a real challenge with a 100 metre over the lake shot to reach the flag!

Almeria also has 2 tennis clubs, a sports complex and football stadium.

Natural Beauty

Almerimar is set in surroundings of exceptional natural beauty. The Punta Entinas National Park has a very special and exclusive beauty. In addition to the rich flora and fauna that can be found in the park, it also offers numerous other attractions (fishing, underwater archaeology, inexhaustible photographic opportunities and walking paths).

Around Almerimar

From Almerimar you can reach the Sierra Nevada and the snow slopes of the excellent ski resort of Pradollano by car in around 2 hours. So amazingly, you could go skiing and do some sunbathing all in the same day and there are not many places in the world of which that could be said. The mountains also afford the opportunity for walking, climbing or mountain biking.

The regional capital Almeria, Andalucia’s most eastern capital is nearby (30km) and is a thriving, fascinating city. Although it is becoming increasingly well known it is still a great discovery, bypassed by tourists coming and going to the airport. Only two hours drive away is Granada and the fabulous Alhambra.

Whilst it is so easy to access the many great places to visit in the area, Almerimar is itself protected from the nuisance of through traffic or ‘unwanted’ tourists by being to the south of the main arterial coastal roads, the E15 and N340.
